โš™๏ธ Site Settings

Settings control how the site introduces itself, how often it updates, whether visits are counted and whether sample content is shown. This page will guide you through each section of "Settings" and how to save your changes.

"Settings" has five sections along the side: "Site", "Social", "Rebuild", "Analytics" and "Demo". When you change a field, a bar appears at the bottom reading "You have unsaved changes" with "Discard" and "Save changes" buttons. Demo mode is the exception, because it applies straight away.

Siteโ€‹

How the site introduces itself in browsers, search and shares.

  • "Site title": the name of the site.
  • "Description": used for search results and link previews.
  • "Logo address": a web address for the logo.
  • "Default share image": used when a story has no image. 1200 by 630 pixels works best.
  • "Contact email": shown on the contact page. Messages from the form also land in "Messages".

Socialโ€‹

"X / Twitter" and "Facebook" addresses, linked from the site footer and used for share cards.

Rebuildโ€‹

The public site is rebuilt only when something readers can see changes. Drafts and planned stories never trigger a rebuild. The field "Rebuild this long after the last change" sets the wait, in seconds, minutes or hours, between 5 seconds and 24 hours. Leave it empty for the default, 5 minutes. A box shows the next update, and "Rebuild now" starts one at once. See Publishing and rebuilds.

Analyticsโ€‹

Count visits with Umami, a cookie-free analytics tool. This applies to the website only. The Android app has no analytics.

  • "Website ID": from your Umami website settings.
  • "Script address": the address of your Umami script.

The section shows "Off", "Needs both fields" or "On". The script is added to every public page at the next rebuild once both fields are set, and clearing them turns it off. Analytics are off until you set them up.

note

Setting up analytics is a decision about your readers' privacy. Check that your privacy policy still describes what the site does.

Demoโ€‹

"Show sample content" fills the site with sample topics, stories, writers, tags and Briefs, so you can try things out. Demo items are marked "Demo data". Turning it off removes them, and your real content is never changed. If something real still links to a demo item, the Studio lists what blocks the removal.

Best Practicesโ€‹

  • Save one section at a time: the unsaved bar covers the whole page.
  • Turn demo content off before you share the site widely.
