👤 Signing In and Syncing

A reader account is an optional sign-in that remembers which stories you have read and where you stopped, so your place follows you from one device to another. This page will guide you through signing in, what the account keeps, and how "where was I" works.

Do I need an account?

No. You can read all of Swift Axis without signing in. Without an account, the site remembers your progress in your own browser on that device only. If you switch browsers or clear your browsing data, that progress is lost. An account saves it so it is not.

note

The sign-in button only appears when reader accounts are switched on for the site. If you cannot see "Sign in" in the header, the site is not offering accounts at the moment.

Signing in

  • Press "Sign in" in the site header.
  • Sign in with Pocket ID on the page that opens. If you do not yet have a Pocket ID account, whether you can create one yourself depends on how the site has set it up.
  • Come back to your page: after signing in you return to the page you were on, and your header shows a round button with your initial.

Press that button to see "Signed in as" with your name, a note that "Your reading progress is synced to your account", and "Sign out". Signing out ends your session on the site, and you stay signed in to Pocket ID itself.

What is synced

When you sign in, the site stores:

  • Your name and email as they come from your Pocket ID sign-in.
  • The stories you have read.
  • The last stories on your trail, which is how "where was I" works.

That is all a reader account holds. Scroll positions inside a story stay on your own device.

Where was I?

Once you have read part of Swift Axis, the "Explore" page shows a card headed "Pick up where you left off" with the story's title and a progress bar. Press it to return to that story. Inside a topic, "Continue reading" does the same for that topic. If you are signed in on two devices, the site merges what you have read on both, so the card is correct whichever device you pick up.

Privacy

Reader accounts never give anyone access to the Studio. For the full detail of what Swift Axis collects, read the privacy policy on swift-axis.com.

note

The Android app has no sign-in. Its reading progress stays on the phone. See Reading in the app.
