๐ค What MCP Is
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, lets an AI agent read and draft Swift Axis stories through a set of tools, using an API token the site owner creates. This page will guide you through what an agent can do on the site, which clients are supported, what you need before you start and where to go next.
- A token always acts as the owner who created it, limited to the scopes chosen for it.
- Every tool that changes something runs as a dry run unless asked otherwise.
- Supported clients: Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code.
What an agent can doโ
Once connected, an agent works with the same stories, topics and choices you see in the Studio. Depending on the token's scopes, it can:
- Read topics, stories, maps, tags, writers, Briefs and the rebuild status.
- Draft stories, plan choices, add crossroads, import images and manage tags and writers.
- Publish stories or a whole thread, schedule them and take them offline.
- Manage the site, such as settings, rebuilds, export and import, messages and pages.
Drafting and publishing are separate steps with separate scopes, so an agent that drafts cannot put anything live unless you allow it. See Available tools.
Supported clientsโ
These guides cover the MCP clients the Studio gives ready-made setup for:
- Claude Desktop and Cursor, configured with an
mcpServersblock. See Claude Desktop and Cursor. - Claude Code, configured with one command. See Claude Code.
Other clients that support MCP over Streamable HTTP with a bearer token may work, but they are not covered here.
Before you startโ
You need three things:
- An API token with the scopes the agent needs. Tokens are created by the site owner in the Studio's "API & MCP" screen. See Access tokens.
- The site's endpoint: your site's address followed by
/mcp. The "Connect an MCP client" section of "API & MCP" shows it, labelled "Endpoint (Streamable HTTP)", with a "Copy" button. - One of the supported clients, installed and signed in.
Treat a token like a password. Do not paste it into chats, documents, screenshots or shared project files. Examples in this guide use the placeholder sxa_xxxxxxxx.
